Shimla Deputy Commissioner Announces Transport City at Mehli
Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap stated that a transport city will be established on approximately 300 bighas of land near Mehli to decongest the state capital and ensure smooth traffic movement. The announcement was made during a meeting regarding the shifting of Sabzi Mandi, Anaj Mandi, and Lakkar Mandi out of Shimla and the establishment of a Transport Nagar.
Joint Inspection of Proposed Land Conducted
A joint inspection of the proposed land near Mehli was conducted today, with officials from the Revenue Department, Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC), Transport Department, Municipal Corporation, and Public Works Department participating. The DC said the land is suitable for relocating markets and establishing the transport city.
Rising Vehicular Inflow Prompts Relocation Plans
Expressing concern over the increasing vehicular inflow in Shimla, Kashyap said maintaining smooth traffic is a major challenge due to rising traffic pressure in various markets. “To effectively address this challenge, plans are underway to relocate major markets outside the city and establish a transport city outside Shimla,” he said.
The proposed land is adjacent to the under-construction Mehli-Shoghi four-lane road, which will provide improved transportation facilities for the public and commission agents. The administration has taken steps towards shifting major markets and motor markets, with work already underway.
