SIR Begins: 2,927 BLOs to Verify 26.8 Lakh Voters in Ludhiana

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls commenced across Punjab on Thursday, June 25, 2026, with officials in Ludhiana district set to verify nearly 27 lakh voters. The month-long exercise, which runs through July 24, aims to enhance the accuracy and integrity of the voter list through systematic door-to-door verification by booth level officers (BLOs).

Massive Deployment for Verification

To ensure smooth operations, the district administration has deployed a total of 2,927 BLOs, 292 supervisors, 14 electoral registration officers (EROs), 28 assistant EROs, and 70 additional AEROs, along with supporting staff. These personnel are tasked with verifying 26.83 lakh registered voters across the district. Each BLO has been assigned responsibility for approximately 300 households and 1,200 voters, with instructions to visit each home up to three times to ensure no eligible voter is omitted.

Process and Forms

BLOs will distribute printed enumeration forms, assist families in completing them, collect the filled forms, and digitise the data. Details from the 2003 voter lists will be shared for cross-verification. New voters who become eligible as of October 1, 2026, will be provided with Form 6 and other declarations to facilitate their inclusion in the rolls. The exercise is designed to make the voter list more accurate and error-free.

Malerkotla Administration Cautions Against Laxity

In Malerkotla, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Viraj S Tidke cautioned all personnel involved in the SIR to avoid any laxity in performing their assigned tasks. He urged residents to ignore misinformation and rumours circulating on social media about potential deletion of votes from certain categories, communities, or religions. “We have cautioned all government personnel against any laxity in the process of preparing final lists,” said Tidke, adding that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to get valid votes deleted. He emphasised that the exercise is intended to “retain” only genuine votes, not to delete them.

Grievance Redressal Mechanism

Tidke also announced the establishment of a special cell at the district level to redress complaints related to the revision process. Residents can submit their grievances online by emailing grievanceredcell.gspsir2026@gmail.com or by calling the helpline number 1950. This mechanism aims to address any issues promptly and ensure a transparent revision process.
