Tarksheel Society Condemns NCERT's Chapter Replacement
State committee leaders of the Tarksheel Society—Rajinder Bhadour, Hem Raj, Joginder Kullewal, and Surjit Tibba—have issued a strong response against the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for replacing certain chapters in school textbooks. The leaders argued that the primary purpose of education is to cultivate a scientific outlook, research spirit, self-confidence, mutual cooperation, brotherhood, and the determination to fight for fundamental rights among students.
According to the society, the removal of key chapters undermines these objectives and represents a regressive step in the Indian education system. The leaders emphasized that education should encourage critical thinking and rational inquiry, not suppress them.
Impact on Students' Learning
The Tarksheel Society stated that the replaced chapters often contained content that promoted logical reasoning and scientific temper. By omitting them, NCERT is depriving students of essential knowledge that helps them question superstitions and develop a modern worldview. The society called for a reversal of the decision and urged the government to prioritize academic integrity over ideological considerations.
They further noted that such changes could have long-term consequences on the quality of education and the ability of students to engage with complex societal issues. The leaders appealed to parents, teachers, and educational institutions to voice their concerns against the move.
