The West Bengal government has officially dissolved the Contai Municipality board, putting an end to a prolonged administrative stalemate that had disrupted civic services in the town. The decision was taken to ensure uninterrupted delivery of essential services to residents.
Administrator Appointed
Contai Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Pratik Ashok Dumal has been appointed as the administrator of the municipality. He will oversee the functioning of the civic body until a new board is constituted through the election process. The notification regarding the dissolution and appointment reached his office on Friday.
Background
The dissolution comes after months of deadlock in the municipal board, which had led to delays in decision-making and affected basic amenities like water supply, sanitation, and waste management. The state government, citing the need for smooth administration, invoked its powers under the West Bengal Municipal Act to dissolve the board.
Residents of Contai have welcomed the move, hoping that the new administrator will expedite pending projects and restore normalcy in civic services. The election for a new board is expected to be announced in due course.
