AAP's Gurpreet Singh Virk elected Zirakpur MC president

Ward No. 31 councillor Gurpreet Singh Virk of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was elected president of the Zirakpur Municipal Council on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Gurvinder Singh Rangi and Jashanpreet Kaur were elected senior vice-president and vice-president, respectively.

First AAP Sweep in Zirakpur

This marks the first time AAP has secured all three top posts in the 31-member house. The party won 16 seats in the May 26 municipal elections, giving it a clear majority. The Shiromani Akali Dal secured six seats, while the Congress and the BJP won four seats each. An independent candidate also won one seat.

Development Priorities

Dera Bassi MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa said the new team will be entrusted with responsibilities for the city's development and immediate solutions to public problems. He added that development will be accelerated by involving all 31 councillors. Virk stated, "Cleanliness, traffic management, water drainage, and strengthening infrastructure in the city are our priorities."

Upcoming Lalru Nagar Council Election

The election for the president of Lalru Nagar Council is scheduled for June 26. Zoravar Singh and Jarnail Kaur are the two strong contenders for the post.
