Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury took a swipe at the breakaway Trinamool Congress (TMC) faction that merged with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI), claiming that “not only humans, but also Bangladeshi political parties are infiltrating India”.
Speaking in Murshidabad amid the escalating battle for control of the TMC following the merger of 20 rebel MPs with the Tripura-based NCPI, Chowdhury drew a parallel with the BJP’s longstanding campaign against illegal immigration from Bangladesh. He claimed that the NCPI had its origins in the student-led movement that emerged in Bangladesh during protests against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and said the party had now reached Delhi.
Taking a further dig at the BJP, he alleged that forces aligned with the ruling party were trying to change the identity and name of the TMC, and said Amit Shah should be cautious because “not only humans, but also Bangladeshi political parties are infiltrating India”.
