Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav launched a sharp critique against the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday, citing a series of separate meetings held by its legislators belonging to different groups as evidence of widespread discontent and brewing rebellion within the ruling party's ranks in Uttar Pradesh.
Allegations of Corruption and Discontent
In an official statement released on Saturday, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh asserted that the rampant corruption by a select few individuals within the BJP has pushed dissatisfied members to the brink of rebellion. He warned that this path would ultimately bring nothing but disrepute to those involved.
Akhilesh Yadav's remarks were directed at alleged reports of BJP Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from various castes and factions organizing independent gatherings across different regions of the state. He interpreted these separate congregations as a clear message from the MLAs.
"By holding separate meetings, the BJP MLAs are trying to send out a message that neither the BJP government and the party organisation nor BJP affiliates are listening to them," Yadav stated. He explained that this perceived neglect results in their recommendations for public works being ignored.
Electoral Roll Revisions and Political Calculus
The SP chief pinpointed another major source of anxiety among BJP legislators. He referenced Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's recent announcement regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, which led to the deletion of 2.89 crore names.
According to the CM's claim, an estimated 85% to 90% of these deleted voters were BJP supporters. Akhilesh Yadav performed a breakdown of this figure, stating that if the 2.89 crore voters are distributed across Uttar Pradesh's 403 assembly constituencies, it averages to a loss of approximately 61,000 votes per constituency for the BJP.
"Going by the CM's claim that these are BJP voters, it means that the party will get 61,000 less votes in every assembly constituency," he argued. Based on this calculation, Yadav made a bold prediction: "By this calculation it means that the BJP will not be able to secure seats in double digits, what to talk of forming the government after the 2027 assembly polls."
Performance Anxiety and Pre-Election Positioning
Akhilesh Yadav further elaborated that the MLAs' restlessness stems from performance anxiety. He claimed that when their work is assessed before elections through surveys, these legislators fear they will be deemed failures because their development recommendations were not acted upon.
"This is the fundamental reason why these MLAs are getting together to explain their position in advance," the Samajwadi Party leader concluded, framing the meetings as a pre-emptive defensive move by BJP MLAs worried about their electoral prospects.
In a separate event on the same day, the Samajwadi Party headquarters in Lucknow hosted a meeting to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maharaja Khet Singh Khangar, a historical Bundelkhand king. The event was presided over by SP national secretary and former cabinet minister Rajendra Chaudhary.
Chaudhary paid rich floral tributes and recalled the king's legacy as a capable warrior who aided Prithviraj Chauhan in his conquests. He described Maharaja Khet Singh Khangar as an able administrator who established Gardkundar as his capital, with the Khangar dynasty ruling over Bundelkhand for a period of 165 years.
