Army Major Dies in Tragic Car Plunge into Gorge Near Dehradun
A 27-year-old Army Major died in a tragic accident near Dehradun. His car plunged into a deep gorge in Chakrata, about 100 kilometers from the city. Police confirmed the incident on Sunday.
Details of the Accident
Major Shubham Saini, a resident of Meerut, was returning to the Chakrata Cantonment. He had visited a nearby area. While driving back, he lost control of his vehicle. The car veered off the road and fell into a 70-foot-deep gorge.
Station house officer Chandrashekhar Nautiyal of Chakrata police station provided details. He told TOI that the incident occurred around 10 am on Saturday. Police learned about the accident after receiving a call from a passerby. The passerby spotted the crashed car in the gorge.
Major Saini died on the spot due to the impact of the accident. His body was later retrieved from the gorge. It was taken to a hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Family and Personal Background
Major Saini's family reached Chakrata by Saturday evening. They took his body to their native place in Meerut for the last rites. His father is an ex-serviceman who retired from the Army as a Subedar.
The Major's elder brother works as a software engineer in Noida. He is scheduled to get married in February. Major Saini was due to go on leave shortly to attend the wedding.
This tragic event has left the family and community in shock. The loss of a young Army officer is deeply felt by all who knew him.
