Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Condemns Telangana CM's Delimitation Remarks
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay, has launched a scathing attack on Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, labeling his recent proposals on delimitation as "unconstitutional and detrimental to the interests of marginalised communities." The criticism came in response to Reddy's argument that regions generating the highest revenue should receive more legislative seats.
Revenue-Based Allocation Sparks Controversy
In a strongly worded statement issued from Hyderabad on Monday, Bandi Sanjay vehemently opposed the Chief Minister's revenue-based allocation logic. "If that is true, should all seats be given to Hyderabad?" he questioned rhetorically. "Isn't there a need to increase seats for districts like Palamuru, where you were born, and the backward Adilabad?"
The BJP leader mocked whether the Congress high command was now formulating principles based solely on financial considerations after sending numerous petitions on the matter. He suggested this approach represented a significant departure from established constitutional norms.
Accusations of Undermining Constitutional Foundations
Bandi Sanjay leveled serious allegations against the Congress party, claiming they were attempting to dismantle the constitutional foundations laid by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He asserted that Revanth Reddy's comments were contrary to the ideals of one of the principal architects of the Indian Constitution.
"If Babasaheb Ambedkar were alive today, he would have ostracised the Congress from the country," the Union Minister stated emphatically, highlighting what he perceives as the party's deviation from constitutional principles.
BJP's Development Vision and PM Modi's Role
Contrasting the BJP's approach with that of the Congress, Bandi Sanjay articulated his party's vision: "BJP's vision is to ensure that the benefits of development reach everyone, regardless of financial status." He clarified that the credit for deciding to increase parliamentary seats by 50% in every state, irrespective of population differences, goes directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The minister emphasized that this approach demonstrates the BJP's commitment to equitable representation across all regions of the country, rather than favoring areas based on economic output alone.
Historical Criticism of Congress on Reservations
Bandi Sanjay further accused the Congress party of being consistently opposed to women's reservations throughout its political history. "Why didn't they provide 33% reservations for women during their five decades of rule?" he challenged, pointing to what he described as the party's historical reluctance on this crucial issue.
He recalled that Congress is currently aligning with political parties like the RJD and Samajwadi Party, which had previously torn up copies of the women's reservation bill in Parliament. This association, according to the BJP leader, reveals contradictions in the Congress party's stated positions on representation and equality.
Call for Truth and Unity
In his concluding remarks, Bandi Sanjay asserted that Revanth Reddy's comments had exposed the true nature of the Congress party's approach to governance and representation. He urged the opposition party to cease engaging in what he characterized as divisive politics and instead speak truthfully about their intentions and policies.
The Union Minister's statements have intensified the ongoing political debate surrounding delimitation and representation in Telangana, setting the stage for further confrontations between the ruling Congress government in the state and the BJP-led central government.
