Abhishek Banerjee Launches Scathing Attack on Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram
Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee delivered a sharp critique of Bengal leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday. He targeted Adhikari directly in his home constituency of Nandigram. Banerjee accused the local MLA of achieving little for the area over the past five years.
Health Camp Inauguration Sets Stage for Political Confrontation
Banerjee spoke after inaugurating two 'Sebaashray' model health camps in Nandigram blocks I and II. He used the platform to highlight Adhikari's perceived failures. According to Banerjee, Adhikari has not delivered basic infrastructure since switching political sides.
"When Adhikari was a TMC MLA, he used to publish a report card on the work he had done. He hasn't published it in the past five years because he has nothing to show for," stated Banerjee emphatically.
Questioning Development Claims and Constituency Service
The Trinamool leader posed direct questions about Adhikari's contributions. "He boasts of having beaten Mamata Banerjee by 1,956 votes, but has he helped 19 people in the past five years, did he build five roads, did he set up two drinking water projects or homes for even six people," Banerjee challenged.
He cited a specific incident involving a migrant worker from Nandigram who died in Kerala. Banerjee claimed Trinamool Congress stepped in to bring back the worker's mortal remains. He alleged the local MLA remained "conspicuously absent" during this crisis.
"Even when people from his constituency were in danger in another state, basic support — expected from an elected representative — was not provided," Banerjee asserted.
Symbolic Gestures and Alleged Disruption Attempts
The inauguration of the Sebaashray camps carried heavy political symbolism. Family members of those who died during the Nandigram agitation lit the ceremonial lamp. This act connected the event to the region's historical political struggles.
Local Trinamool members made additional allegations against opposition forces. They claimed BJP supporters tried to disrupt the event through specific actions:
- Tearing down banners and promotional materials
- Intimidating families of deceased individuals
- Attempting to force families to withdraw from participation
The event underscored ongoing political tensions in West Bengal. It highlighted contrasting narratives about development and representation in the crucial Nandigram constituency.
