District in-charge minister Satish Jarkiholi has announced that the much-anticipated flyover project in Belagavi city will move forward only after actively seeking and incorporating feedback from citizens and various organisations. This decision underscores the government's commitment to a participatory approach for major infrastructure works.
Public Consultation Scheduled for January 6
Following a review meeting with officials on Tuesday evening, Jarkiholi revealed that a dedicated session has been planned for January 6 to collect suggestions and address concerns from all stakeholders. This step is deemed crucial before finalising the project's alignment and execution blueprint.
The minister stressed that for a project of this magnitude, which will directly affect daily commuters, local traders, educational institutions, and residents along the proposed corridor, public consultation is not just a formality but a necessity. He confirmed that while the state cabinet has already granted its approval, the execution will be carried out in a structured, three-phase manner to minimise disruption.
Three-Phased Execution Plan Detailed
The proposed plan outlines a clear phased approach. The first phase is slated to cover the stretch from the national highway near Sankam Hotel to Rani Channamma Circle. The second phase will then extend the flyover from Rani Channamma Circle to Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj Chowk. The final third phase will complete the link up to the Third Railway Gate.
Jarkiholi explained that officials have been instructed to adopt this phased strategy to better manage traffic flow during construction, tackle technical challenges at major junctions, and ensure smoother overall execution. He firmly stated that tenders for construction work will be floated only after the alignment and design are completely finalised, a move intended to prevent costly changes or disputes once building begins.
Urgent Need for New Waste Depots Highlighted
Separately, during the same meeting, Minister Jarkiholi brought attention to the pressing issue of waste management in Belagavi. He pointed out that the existing Turmuri garbage dumping yard is already operating beyond its capacity. To address future challenges, he has directed officials to identify suitable land for two new waste depots—one in Belagavi North and another in Belagavi South.
The review meeting was attended by key officials including MLA Asif Sait, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan, Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled, Zilla Panchayat CEO Rahul Shinde, and City Police Commissioner Bhushan Borse.
