Bengal BJP Criticizes Trinamool's Inclusion of Allegedly Corrupt Candidates

In a sharp political attack, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal has pointed to what it calls 'tainted candidates' on the Trinamool Congress's list, while mocking the ruling party's apparent dearth of eligible leaders. The criticism emerged on Tuesday as BJP leaders took to social media and public statements to highlight alleged corruption cases linked to Trinamool nominees.

Amit Malviya Targets Paresh Adhikari Over Daughter's Job Controversy

BJP's Bengal co-incharge Amit Malviya used his X handle to specifically target Paresh Adhikari, a former education minister of Bengal, whose daughter Ankita Adhikari's job was cancelled by the Calcutta High Court. Malviya wrote, "First name on the Trinamool list: Paresh Adhikari, former education minister of Bengal," noting that the court had even ordered her to return the salary she had drawn. He added, "Today, placing his name at the very top of the list is nothing short of a mockery of the victims of the SSC scam." This reference to the SSC (Staff Selection Commission) scam underscores ongoing allegations of corruption in recruitment processes in the state.

Rahul Sinha Questions Trinamool's Strategy and Achievements

BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Rahul Sinha expressed disappointment, stating that the party expected Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to showcase her achievements over the last 15 years and seek votes based on that record. Instead, Sinha said, "We could see each of the tainted leaders in the candidate list of Trinamool. The party could not drop them despite serious corruption charges against them." This comment highlights the BJP's narrative that Trinamool is reliant on controversial figures due to a lack of clean alternatives.

Samik Bhattacharya Mocks Trinamool's Candidate Shortage

Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya further ridiculed Trinamool's situation, pointing to the candidacy of Pabitra Kar against Suvendu Adhikari as evidence of a 'dearth of candidates.' He remarked, "We heard that a heavyweight leader from Trinamool is likely to contest from Nandigram this time. It now seems that Trinamool is trying to save its sinking ship. Adhikari will win in both Nandigram and Bhowanipore." This statement reflects the BJP's confidence in its electoral prospects and its view of Trinamool as struggling internally.

BJP's Strategic Meeting and Election Predictions

Meanwhile, BJP leaders convened at Union minister Bhupendra Yadav's residence on Tuesday to discuss the second list of candidates for the upcoming elections. Bhattacharya seized this opportunity to make a bold prediction, saying, "From the candidate list we can easily read the writing on the wall. Trinamool will have to go on May 4, and the countdown has started." This assertion signals the BJP's aggressive campaign stance and its aim to unseat the ruling party in the state.

The political landscape in West Bengal remains heated as both parties gear up for elections, with corruption allegations and candidate quality becoming central issues in the discourse.
