Bengal BJP Leadership to Convene for Crucial Candidate Selection Meeting

Senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal are preparing for a significant meeting with the party's election management committee scheduled for next week. The primary agenda will be the discussion and finalization of the initial list of candidates for upcoming elections.

Key Meetings in Delhi and Kolkata

State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya traveled to New Delhi on Monday, where he engaged in extensive discussions with key party functionaries. Sources indicate Bhattacharya is likely to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday to discuss election strategy and candidate selection.

"The election management committee is expected to convene by next week," revealed a senior Bengal BJP member. "The party already possesses a preliminary roster of potential candidates, and a primary list will be formulated following multiple rounds of consultations with state and district-level members."

Once finalized at the state level, this candidate list will be forwarded to the central leadership in New Delhi for final approval.

Election Committee Members Arrive in Bengal

Bengal BJP in-charge Mangal Pandey is scheduled to arrive in Kolkata on Tuesday. His itinerary includes meetings with local leaders and party workers in North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and Malda districts. Additional members of the election management committee are also anticipated to reach Kolkata later this week to participate in strategic discussions.

Concerns Over Voter List Integrity

Simultaneously, BJP leaders have expressed serious apprehensions regarding the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. Bhattacharya alleged on Monday that the ruling Trinamool Congress is attempting to disrupt the revision process.

"The Trinamool has a singular agenda to retain Rohingya individuals on the voter list while potentially facilitating the deletion of Hindu voters across various assembly constituencies," Bhattacharya stated. "We will observe whether the people of Bengal have properly assessed this threat, and their response will be reflected in the election outcomes."

Opposition Leader's Perspective

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, who departed for New Delhi on Monday afternoon, claimed that attempts to stall the SIR process have been thwarted. "Mamata Banerjee attempted to halt the revision by approaching the Supreme Court," Adhikari asserted. "She sought to enter the 2026 assembly elections using the 2024 voter list, but this effort has been foiled."

Adhikari is also expected to meet with senior BJP leaders in New Delhi on Tuesday to coordinate election strategy.

Anticipated High-Level Visit

State BJP seniors have confirmed they are coordinating with Union Home Minister Amit Shah's office regarding his potential visit to West Bengal during the third week of February. This visit is expected to provide further momentum to the party's election preparations and campaign strategy.

The coming weeks will be crucial for the Bengal BJP as they finalize candidates, address voter list concerns, and prepare their organizational machinery for the electoral battle ahead.
