BJP Spokesperson Launches Scathing Attack on Congress in Assam
BJP national spokesperson Prem Shukla delivered a blistering critique of the Congress party and its Assam president Gaurav Gogoi on Monday, accusing the opposition of engaging in what he termed "anti-national politics" that threatens India's unity and integrity.
Allegations of Weakening National Fabric
Addressing journalists at the BJP office in Itkhola, Silchar, Shukla presented a comprehensive indictment of Congress's historical record. "The Congress has a long and documented history of weakening our nation's foundations," Shukla asserted during the press conference. He specifically referenced senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, claiming his political actions had deliberately attempted to create divisions within the country.
Shukla emphasized that with the BJP holding power both at the central government and in Assam, no external or internal force could separate the seven northeastern states from the rest of India. He highlighted what he described as unprecedented peace, security, and development across the region under BJP-led administrations.
Dangerous Political Patterns Alleged
The BJP spokesperson accused Congress of following what he called a "dangerous political pattern" that involves sympathizing with and actively patronizing divisive forces. "They are not merely offering sympathy to these elements; they are providing active patronage," Shukla stated, though he did not provide specific contemporary examples to substantiate these claims.
Shukla offered strong backing for Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, declaring that the CM's firm stance against such divisive politics was completely justified and necessary for the state's stability.
Controversial Comparison to Muslim League
In one of his most provocative statements, Shukla alleged that the Congress party had effectively transformed into a "Muslim League" in its current form. He claimed that the conduct and public statements of certain Congress leaders raised serious questions about their loyalties and suggested possible connections with Pakistan—allegations that the Congress party has consistently and vehemently denied on multiple occasions.
Praise for Union Budget and Development Vision
Shifting to policy matters, Shukla spoke extensively about the recent Union Budget, praising its comprehensive focus on development initiatives, welfare programs, and inclusive economic growth. He emphasized that the budget's provisions would directly benefit the people of Assam, particularly those from poor and marginalized communities who have historically been underserved.
"The BJP government operates with a clear, forward-looking vision for Assam's future development," Shukla declared. "In stark contrast, the Congress remains mired in divisive and negative political tactics that offer nothing constructive to the people." He expressed confidence that voters could clearly discern the substantive differences between the two parties' approaches to governance.
Local Leadership Echoes Support
The press conference saw participation from several prominent local BJP leaders who reinforced Shukla's statements. Barak Valley Development Department Minister Kaushik Rai, Cachar BJP President Rupam Saha, and former Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy were all present and expressed unanimous confidence in the BJP's policies and leadership direction.
These local leaders echoed Shukla's assessment of the political landscape, emphasizing their belief in the BJP's developmental agenda while criticizing what they characterized as Congress's obstructionist and divisive political strategies.
