BJP Leader Accuses Himachal Government of Deepening State Crises
In a sharp critique from Shimla, State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Dr Rajeev Bindal on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led government, accusing it of plunging Himachal Pradesh into a severe financial, administrative, and law-and-order crisis over the past three and a half years. Dr Bindal, while interacting with mediapersons, asserted that the state is grappling with escalating issues that reflect a governance failure.
Rising Crime and Drug Abuse Highlighted as Major Concerns
Dr Bindal claimed that incidents of murder, robbery, extortion, and organised crime have been on a steady rise across the state. He emphasised that drug abuse among the youth has become a serious and alarming concern, citing media reports that indicate a significant number of young people are affected by substance abuse. According to the BJP leader, this trend directly points to a failure in governance and public safety measures.
Allegations of Mafia Operations and Revenue Losses
The BJP president further alleged that mining and forest mafias are operating openly in several districts, including Kangra, Chamba, Mandi, and Solan. He stated that these illegal activities are causing heavy revenue losses to the state exchequer. Dr Bindal pointed to attacks on forest officials as evidence of weakening law enforcement, suggesting that such incidents underscore a breakdown in administrative control.
Criticism of Financial Management and Expenditure
Targeting the state's financial health, Dr Bindal criticised what he described as a "borrow and spend" policy adopted by the government. He accused the administration of excessive borrowing instead of focusing on strengthening revenue sources. The BJP leader alleged that numerous advisers, officers on special duty (OSDs), and other appointees have been given high salaries and facilities, leading to increased expenditure. He also questioned spending on publicity, vehicles, and legal battles, arguing that these expenses are unsustainable.
Concerns Over Pre-Election Guarantees and Delayed Payments
Dr Bindal raised concerns about several pre-election guarantees, claiming they now appear financially unsustainable. He alleged delays in payments of dearness allowance, pension, retirement benefits, and social schemes, which he said reflect poor planning and mismanagement. The BJP leader asserted that his party will continue to raise these issues in the public interest, highlighting what he views as systemic failures under the current government.
