BJP Tightens Grip on Sirmaur Zila Parishad

On Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) consolidated its influence over local governance in Sirmaur district as its supported candidates secured the top positions in the Zila Parishad. Shivani from Dadahu was elected chairperson, while Baldev Bhandari from Pachhad won the vice-chairperson post.

Oath of Office Administered

Deputy Commissioner of Sirmaur, Priyanka Verma, administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected representatives. The chairperson position was reserved for Scheduled Caste women, reflecting the district's commitment to inclusive representation.

BJP's Majority in the Parishad

The BJP entered the election with a clear majority in the 17-member Zila Parishad, having won 13 seats. The Congress party secured three seats, while one Independent candidate was also elected. Given the BJP's numerical strength, the victory of its supported candidates was widely anticipated.

Reactions from BJP Leaders

BJP state president Dr. Rajeev Bindal congratulated the newly elected chairperson and vice-chairperson, describing the result as a reflection of public faith in development and good governance. He stated, "The outcome demonstrates the confidence reposed by the people of Sirmaur in BJP-backed candidates and signals growing dissatisfaction with the Congress-led state government." Dr. Bindal alleged that the state is grappling with issues such as rising debt, unemployment, and sluggish development, and claimed that several promises made by the Congress during the Assembly elections remain unfulfilled. According to him, the BJP has continued to receive strong public support in local body elections across Himachal Pradesh.

Other Leaders Express Confidence

Other BJP leaders, including Shimla MP Suresh Kashyap, Pachhad MLA Reena Kashyap, former Shillai MLA Baldev Tomar, and former Zila Parishad chairperson Dalip Chauhan, expressed confidence that Shivani and Baldev Bhandari would work towards the overall development of Sirmaur. They emphasized that the newly elected representatives would focus on strengthening rural areas and addressing public concerns.

Political Significance

The leaders described the result as politically significant, further reinforcing the BJP's position in the district. The outcome is seen as a boost for the party ahead of future local and state-level elections.
