The Chandigarh Congress staged a protest in Maloya on Saturday, condemning the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices, which marks the third such hike in a short period. Party workers raised slogans and expressed deep concern over the adverse effects of rising fuel prices on inflation and household expenses.
Party Leaders Address the Gathering
Addressing the protesters, Chandigarh Congress president HS Lucky stated that the repeated fuel price increases are severely affecting daily life and exerting financial pressure on common citizens. He emphasized that the government must take immediate steps to curb the rising costs.
Impact on Economically Weaker Sections
Dharambir, chairman of the party's Scheduled Caste department, noted that the price hike is particularly burdensome for economically weaker sections and laborers, who rely heavily on transportation for their livelihoods. He called for urgent relief measures to protect these vulnerable groups.
Voices from the Protest
Mahila Congress president Nandita Hooda and councillor Nirmala also addressed the gathering, voicing alarm over the broader increase in prices of essential commodities and its cascading effect on households. They urged the administration to roll back the fuel price hikes and control inflation.
Continued Opposition
Party leaders affirmed that they will persist in raising the issue of fuel prices and inflation through protests and other democratic means until the government addresses their demands. The protest underscores the growing public discontent over the rising cost of living in Chandigarh.
