Congress Minister Levels Serious Allegations Against Central Government
In a significant political development, Telangana's Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy has launched a scathing attack against the BJP-led central government, accusing it of deliberate discrimination against the state. The minister made these allegations during election rallies held on Saturday, specifically targeting what he described as a failure to honor commitments made under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
Massive Gap Between Promises and Actions
"There exists a massive and concerning gap between the BJP's words and its actual actions regarding fund allocation to Telangana," Uttam Kumar Reddy stated emphatically during his addresses. "The state has not received any significant central funding for crucial sectors and important development projects that are vital for our growth and progress."
The minister, accompanied by SC, ST, and Minority Welfare Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar, conducted a series of street-corner meetings across multiple municipalities within the Nizamabad parliamentary constituency limits. These included Korutla, Metpally, Bheemgal, and Armoor municipalities, where both leaders engaged directly with voters ahead of the upcoming municipal elections.
Political Winds Favoring Congress, Say Ministers
During their campaign stops, the ministers expressed strong confidence in the Congress party's electoral prospects. "Strong political winds are blowing in favor of the Congress party," they declared, citing internal surveys that predict a clean sweep in the approaching polls.
Uttam Kumar Reddy elaborated on this optimism, stating: "The overwhelmingly positive response we are receiving from voters across these municipalities signals the impending end of opposition dominance, even in urban local bodies that were traditionally considered their strongholds."
He specifically highlighted Korutla municipality, established in 1988, as an example of neglect under the previous BRS regime. "People are genuinely happy and satisfied with the welfare-oriented and development-focused agenda implemented by the Congress government," the minister asserted, expressing firm belief that urban voters would deliver a massive victory to the party.
Showcasing Welfare Initiatives and Reaffirming Commitments
The ministers took the opportunity to highlight several welfare schemes introduced since December 2023, which they believe have resonated strongly with the electorate. These initiatives include:
- Free RTC bus travel for women across the state
- Provision of 200 units of free electricity to eligible households
- Free distribution of fine rice to beneficiaries
- LPG cylinders made available at a subsidized rate of Rs 500
In a separate address directed specifically toward the minority community, Uttam Kumar Reddy reaffirmed the Congress party's longstanding commitment. "The Congress has always stood firmly with minority communities throughout our history," he stated, emphasizing the party's dedication to secular ideology and inclusive governance.
The minister's allegations come at a crucial juncture in Telangana's political landscape, with municipal elections serving as an important barometer of public sentiment. The claims of funding discrimination against the central government add a significant dimension to the ongoing political discourse in the state.
