A delegation from the Congress party in Mysuru has presented a comprehensive set of demands to the city's police commissioner, focusing on urgent upgrades to policing and traffic infrastructure. The meeting, which took place recently, involved key party representatives engaging with authorities to address long-standing civic issues.

Key Congress Representatives Meet Police Commissioner

The Congress delegation included prominent figures such as KPCC spokesperson M Lakshmana, city unit president R Murthy, and district unit president BJ Vijaya Kumar. They met with Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar to formally express their concerns regarding traffic congestion and transportation challenges in the city. This engagement highlights the party's proactive approach to urban governance and public safety matters.

Budget Wish List Submitted Ahead of State Budget

Ahead of the upcoming state budget, the delegation submitted a detailed wish list of demands, seeking an allocation of Rs 500 crore. This funding is intended for better policing, enhanced traffic systems, and significant infrastructure upgradation. The demands were communicated to the Chief Minister through the police commissioner, emphasizing the need for immediate action.

Major Infrastructure and Policing Demands

The budget wish list encompasses a wide range of proposals aimed at transforming Mysuru's urban landscape. Key demands include:

  • Establishment of six new police stations to improve law enforcement coverage.
  • Upgradation of police infrastructure, including the creation of a bomb detection squad for enhanced security.
  • Development of four new bus terminals around the ring road to ease public transport congestion.
  • Relocation of the private bus stand outside the city to reduce traffic in central areas.
  • Creation of four new Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) posts to strengthen administrative oversight.
  • Construction of six new multi-level parking facilities to address parking shortages.
  • Initiation of action to build an exhibition centre outside the city to boost economic activities.
  • Procurement of sophisticated two and four-wheelers for the city police to improve mobility.
  • Installation of traffic signals for all circles on the ring road to streamline traffic flow.
  • Widening of the existing ring road into a 6+6 lane configuration to accommodate growing vehicular traffic.
  • Commencement of works on the Peripheral Ring Road, radial roads, and Outer Ring Road to enhance connectivity.

The delegation stressed that at least Rs 500 crore is required in the first phase for the upgradation of the city police. M Lakshmana remarked, "As the state government is forming the Greater Mysuru City Corporation, these interventions are much required." This statement underscores the alignment of these demands with broader urban development initiatives.

Additional Requests from the Police Commissioner

In addition to the delegation's demands, Police Commissioner Seema Latkar outlined several specific needs to bolster law enforcement and public services. These include:

  • Establishment of four traffic police stations to better manage traffic violations and incidents.
  • Provision of 10 VIP escort vans, considering that a minimum of 10 VIPs visit Mysuru daily, requiring secure transportation.
  • Deployment of five mobile caravan buses to be parked in busy areas, serving as restrooms for women to enhance public convenience and safety.
  • Construction of quarters for DCPs to ensure adequate housing for senior police officials.
  • Setting up a command centre to monitor CCTV footage across the city, improving surveillance and crime prevention capabilities.

This collaborative effort between the Congress delegation and police authorities reflects a shared commitment to addressing Mysuru's infrastructural and security challenges. The proposed measures, if implemented, could significantly improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike, positioning Mysuru as a model for urban development in the region.
