Congress Projects Unity in Chandrapur Amid Municipal Corporation Maneuvering

The Congress party on Saturday made a concerted effort to project a united front in Chandrapur, even as intense political maneuvering continues over control of the municipal corporation. Senior leaders have come forward to assert that any internal differences within the party have been effectively resolved, aiming to present a cohesive image to the public and allies alike.

Accusations Against BJP and Claims of Internal Harmony

In a significant development, Congress leaders have accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to poach corporators through what they describe as financial and political inducements. This allegation adds a layer of tension to the already competitive political landscape in the region.

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Harshwardhan Sapkal played a key role in reinforcing the party's stance. He categorically stated that there is "no dispute whatsoever" within the Congress in Chandrapur. Sapkal emphasized that legislative party leader Vijay Wadettiwar and Chandrapur MP Pratibha Dhanorkar are working in "full coordination", a claim intended to dispel any rumors of discord.

Strategic Moves and Alliance Discussions

Speaking to reporters in Buldhana, Sapkal outlined the party's strategic moves. He revealed that the Congress is actively working to consolidate its strength, which currently stands at 27 corporators in Chandrapur. To bolster its position, the party is engaging in crucial talks with key allies.

These discussions involve Shiv Sena (UBT), the Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), and other potential partners. The primary objective is to ensure the election of a mayor from the Congress party, a move that would significantly enhance its influence in the municipal corporation.

"Process of forming a unified Congress group is underway, and discussions are on so that our allies support Congress in Chandrapur," Sapkal explained. He further highlighted the party's recent support for Shiv Sena (UBT) in the Parbhani Municipal Corporation, expressing an expectation of reciprocity in Chandrapur.

Congress's Statewide Performance and Opposition Role

Sapkal also pointed to the Congress's performance in the recent civic polls, noting that it has emerged as the third-largest party in Maharashtra. This achievement positions it as the principal opposition in the state, a status that the party aims to leverage in its negotiations and political strategies.

The developments in Chandrapur underscore the ongoing political dynamics in Maharashtra, where alliances and internal unity are critical for success in local governance. As the Congress seeks to strengthen its foothold, the coming days will likely see further political maneuvers and announcements.
