CPM Leader Calls Party's Kerala Poll Defeat 'Shameful'

Kozhikode: Senior CPM functionary P K Sreemathy has stated that the party suffered a 'shameful' defeat in the recent assembly elections and that a comprehensive introspection is underway across all levels of the organization. Speaking to the media, Sreemathy said, 'We have understood in a self-critical manner that we have suffered an extremely shameful and humiliating defeat. A deep and careful examination of the setback is being carried out at all levels of the party.' She emphasized that there is no point in blaming any individual for the defeat, as the party faced the elections collectively and in a united manner. Sreemathy further added that the party would undertake corrective measures after identifying the reasons behind the setback.

In a separate development, Sreemathy welcomed the decision of the newly-formed UDF government to increase the honorarium of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs). She expressed hope that the government would continue to implement pro-people policies. The CPM leader's remarks come amid a period of reflection for the party, which lost power after a five-year term. The party is now focusing on organizational strengthening and preparing for future electoral challenges.
