The Central Young Lai Association (CYLA), recognized as the largest civil society organization in Lawngtlai district of south Mizoram, has made a formal appeal to Governor Gen Vijay Kumar Singh. The association is urging immediate action to expedite the formation of the executive committee and appoint a Chief Executive Member (CEM) for the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC).
Saturday Deadline Set with Republic Day Boycott Threat
In a strongly worded letter dispatched on Friday evening, CYLA has established a firm deadline of 4 PM on Saturday for the governor to address their demands. The association has explicitly warned that failure to meet their request will result in a boycott of Republic Day celebrations in the district. This ultimatum underscores the escalating tension surrounding the administrative impasse.
Background of the Political Stalemate
The association's letter detailed the timeline of events leading to the current crisis. Elections for the 25-member Lai Autonomous District Council were conducted on December 3, 2025, with official results announced on December 9. Following the elections, the legislature party staked its claim to form the executive committee as per democratic norms.
However, the entire process has been brought to a standstill due to the governor's non-approval of the proposed Chief Executive Member. This bureaucratic delay has created what CYLA describes as a governance vacuum with severe consequences for the region.
Severe Impacts of Administrative Paralysis
