Independent councillor Deepak Kumar, also known as Deepu, was elected president of the Nurmahal Municipal Council in Jalandhar district during a meeting held on June 24, 2026. Deepak, who contested the recent municipal elections as an Independent candidate with Congress support, later joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after the polls. BSP candidate Kuldeep Kumar was elected as the vice-president.

All 13 newly elected councillors were sworn in at the council meeting, which was conducted by Phillaur Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Deepak Kumar.
