Delhi Govt Renames Metro Stations, Landmarks to Honor Icons

The Delhi government has approved the renaming of several metro stations, public landmarks, and institutions across the capital to honor prominent personalities and strengthen local identity. The decisions were cleared by the State Names Authority (SNA), chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, with senior officials from the urban development department, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in attendance.

Key Renamings Approved

Britannia Chowk in Shakurpur will be renamed 'Ashwini Chopra (Minna) Chowk' after the noted journalist. An under-construction hospital in Jwalapuri will be named 'Baba Ramdevji Maharaj Hospital' after the 14th-century spiritual guru.

Metro Station Name Changes

Among metro stations, Rohini West will be renamed 'Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital Metro Station', Rohini East will become 'Rohini Metro Station' for clearer identification, and Dwarka Metro Station will be renamed 'Dwarka-Kakrola'.

Sports Complex Named After Atal Bihari Vajpayee

The SNA also approved naming the new sports complex in Begampur, Rohini Sector-33, as 'Atal Khel Parisar', with a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to be installed there. Officials said the move aims to strengthen public memory and connect citizens, especially younger generations, with notable figures and places.

Chief Minister's Statement

“Honoring those who contributed to public life remains a priority, helping preserve our history and heritage,” the CM said, adding that the government is committed to both infrastructural and cultural development.
