DMK Manifesto Committee Engages with Voters in Trichy and Thanjavur Districts

The DMK's election manifesto drafting committee, under the leadership of Member of Parliament Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, conducted a significant visit to Trichy and Thanjavur districts on Tuesday. This initiative aimed to actively record and incorporate the suggestions of voters from 37 assembly constituencies spread across eight central districts of Tamil Nadu. The committee's engagement underscores the party's commitment to grassroots democracy and inclusive policy-making ahead of the upcoming elections.

Key Demands Raised by Trichy Residents at Jamal Mohamed College Auditorium

During an interactive session held at the Jamal Mohamed College auditorium in Trichy, participants voiced several pressing demands that reflect the city's developmental needs. A prominent request was for the establishment of a Semmozhi ecological park, similar to the one in Coimbatore, to counteract the effects of rapid urbanization. Residents highlighted the lack of entertainment venues and green spaces, proposing the Ariyamangalam dump yard on the Trichy-Thanjavur National Highway as a viable location for this park. This move is seen as crucial for enhancing the city's environmental sustainability and recreational facilities.

Urgent Call for a Separate Transport Division to Boost Connectivity

Another critical demand centered on the need for a separate transport division for the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), bifurcated from the Kumbakonam division, with Trichy as its headquarters. Subash Chandran, a member of the Trichy Intra-City Development Endeavours (TIDES), emphasized Trichy's role as a major transit hub bordering ten districts. He pointed out that the absence of a dedicated transport division has hindered the establishment of new city bus routes, affecting public mobility and economic growth. This proposal aims to streamline transport operations and improve connectivity across the region.

Additional Demands for Trichy's Development and Second Capital Status

Beyond the ecological and transport needs, participants raised several other demands to bolster Trichy's infrastructure and administrative significance. These included advocating for second capital status for Trichy, which would involve setting up regional and satellite offices for various government departments. Other requests featured the establishment of a government dental college, a siddha college, and a northern ring road utilizing state highways. Efforts to develop a satellite campus in Trichy for the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Tiruvarur, were also highlighted, aiming to enhance educational opportunities in the area.

Political Leaders Submit Their Proposals and Assure Fulfillment of Promises

During the session, Ministers K N Nehru and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi presented their specific demands. Nehru called for a government arts and science college in the Trichy East and Manachanallur assembly constituencies to promote higher education. Former Rajya Sabha MP M M Abdulla from Pudukottai sought a veterinary college and government agriculture university facilities for his district, addressing local agricultural needs. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi reassured attendees, stating, "Our election manifesto will be the heroine of this election. The DMK government will continue in the state, and promises made in the election manifesto will fulfill public expectations. We are a party that delivers." This statement reflects the party's confidence in its governance and commitment to implementing voter-driven policies.

Committee's Approach to Manifesto Drafting Based on Public Input

The manifesto committee is meticulously compiling representations from diverse sections of society, including residents and traders, to create a comprehensive document. As explained by a committee representative, "Based on representations received from all sections of people, including residents and traders, the committee will list state-level and district-level promises in the manifesto." This participatory approach ensures that the manifesto addresses both broad state issues and localized concerns, aiming to resonate with voters across Tamil Nadu and strengthen the DMK's electoral prospects.
