Chandigarh: Deputy election commissioner Sanjay Kumar on Monday urged Haryana officials to ensure the inclusion of all eligible voters and the removal of deceased, shifted, and ineligible electors through a transparent process. He was reviewing the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of electoral rolls in the state during a meeting held in Chandigarh.
Review Meeting Highlights
Chairing the review meeting, Kumar assessed various arrangements, action plans, and activities being undertaken under the prescribed schedule for SIR-2026. Senior election officials discussed the progress of the revision exercise and measures to improve the accuracy of electoral rolls.
Haryana chief electoral officer A Sreenivas stated that Kumar emphasized strict adherence to the guidelines of the Election Commission of India while ensuring completion of the exercise in a time-bound, transparent, and inclusive manner.
Booth-Level Verification
Kumar also reviewed booth-level verification activities and instructed booth level officers (BLOs) to conduct door-to-door verification systematically and effectively to enhance the reliability of electoral rolls. He highlighted the importance of stakeholder participation, calling for regular interaction and coordination with political party representatives. Their active involvement, he said, strengthens the democratic process.
Voter Awareness and Data Mapping
The meeting also reviewed voter awareness programmes, disposal of claims and objections, and administrative and technical preparations. Kumar stated that notices would be issued to voters whose data mapping remained incomplete. To avoid overcrowding at Electoral Registration Officers' offices, such voters were advised to complete the process through their respective BLOs.
