Patna University to Become Digitally Empowered Smart Campus

Patna: Patna University (PU) is poised to transform into a digitally empowered smart campus in the near future by fully adopting e-governance and paperless administration. In its vision document for 2026-30, published on its website, PU outlines plans to strengthen academic standards through modernization of curriculum, introduction of emerging disciplines, and enhancement of student-centric learning systems.

Multidisciplinary Curriculum as per NEP

The university intends to adopt a multidisciplinary and flexible curriculum structure in line with National Education Policy (NEP) guidelines. This approach aims to promote conceptual learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving aptitude among students through outcome-based teaching, experiential learning, case studies, project work, field exposure, and interdisciplinary methods.

New Academic Programmes

Birendra Prasad, Director of PU's Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), stated that the university proposes to introduce several new academic programmes to address emerging educational and employment opportunities. These include undergraduate courses in data science, artificial intelligence, and skill-based interdisciplinary courses, as well as an M.Sc. in forensic science and specialized interdisciplinary programmes in environmental studies at the postgraduate level.

Research and Innovation Focus

Over the next five years, PU aims to emerge as a major centre for advanced research and innovation by fostering an interdisciplinary research culture, international collaborations, and industry-oriented innovation. Key infrastructural plans include establishing a central instrumentation facility for researchers across departments and colleges, and setting up a biosafety level-3 (BSL-3) laboratory to enhance research capabilities in advanced biological, biomedical, microbiological, and infectious diseases.

Incubation Hub for Start-ups

The university also plans to establish an Incubation Hub to promote start-ups and entrepreneurship, encourage innovation among students and faculty, and facilitate industry collaboration and technology commercialization.

Digital Initiatives

Digital initiatives include full automation of the university library and departmental libraries, expansion of e-library services, digital repositories, and online access systems. Additionally, PU will strengthen ICT-enabled teaching-learning processes, expand the digital studio for e-content development, MOOCs, online lectures, and virtual classrooms, and implement smart classrooms, integrated campus networking, and digital student support systems.

These developments are part of PU's comprehensive vision to create a modern, technology-driven educational environment that prepares students for future challenges.
