Farmers in the Siwani region of Bhiwani district have joined the ongoing dharna in Chanot village, demanding adequate water and electricity supply and warning of agitation if their grievances are not addressed. The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) expressed serious concern over the worsening power and water shortage in the region, stating that inaction would fuel resentment among farmers and residents.
BKS Meeting in Siwani Mandi
The BKS held a meeting in Siwani Mandi town, chaired by district president Dilbag Singh, to discuss challenges faced by the farming community, particularly electricity and water shortages for irrigation. Activists alleged discrimination against southern Haryana and opposed any move to hand over the power sector to private companies. BKS in-charge for power issues, Mahipal Baddu, raised farmers' grievances and called for early resolution through administrative authorities.
Support from Political Leaders
Meanwhile, the Chanot dharna committee claimed widespread support from several districts and political parties. Anoop Singh Chanot, a committee member, said Congress MLAs including Jhajjar MLA and former minister Geeta Bhukkal, Kalanaur MLA Shakuntala Khatak, Narnaund MLA Jassi Petwar, Guhla Cheeka MLA Hans Raj, Uklana MLA Naresh Selwal, and Baroda MLA Induraj Narwal visited the dharna site to express solidarity. They demanded a T-joint in the Bhakra pipeline to ensure adequate water supply to Chanot village.
Kanwari Village Extends Support
Residents of Kanwari village in Hisar district also announced their support for the Chanot agitation. The dharna in Chanot has been ongoing since May 16 over the demand for water.
