Kendrapada: Five individuals accused of murdering a 32-year-old man in Jajpur district last month were arrested from Surat in Gujarat on Thursday, following a prolonged evasion of law enforcement for over a month, officials confirmed on Friday.
Details of the Arrest
The accused have been identified as Bapina Malik (31), Tapina Malik (27), Sanjaya Malik (30), Raju Malik (34), and Managobinda Malik (33). All five are residents of Betanda village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Dharmasala police station limits.
Background of the Case
The murder case dates back to last month when the victim, a 32-year-old man, was killed in Jajpur district. Following the incident, the accused fled their hometown and managed to evade capture for more than 30 days. Police launched a manhunt and tracked them to Surat, a major city in Gujarat, where they were finally apprehended.
The arrest was made possible through coordinated efforts between the local police in Jajpur and their counterparts in Gujarat. The accused are currently being held in custody and will be transported back to Odisha for further legal proceedings.
Authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the murder, but investigations are ongoing. The swift action by the police has been commended by local residents, who had been anxious following the incident.
