Tension gripped the Giridih district of Jharkhand late on Monday evening after violence erupted soon after the conclusion of voting for the municipal elections in Ward No 18 under the nagar police station. The incident, which unfolded in a volatile atmosphere, left two people with bullet injuries and triggered widespread chaos in the area.
Shooting Incident and Injuries
Two individuals sustained bullet injuries in the firing and are currently undergoing treatment at the sadar hospital. The injured have been identified as Md Aslam Ansari and Samim Ansari. According to local reports, the firing took place between Jhinjhari Mohalla and Azad Nagar, escalating from earlier disputes related to the electoral process.
Background of the Conflict
Locals revealed that a dispute over a vote had broken out in the morning, prompting the intervention of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who managed to temporarily pacify the situation. However, tensions flared up again in the evening when another altercation reportedly escalated, culminating in the gunfire that injured the two individuals.

The incident triggered significant chaos in the area, with a large crowd assembling near the Bhandaridih intersection on the road to Chaitadih. Protesters raised slogans against the police and allegedly pelted stones at a passing police vehicle, demonstrating their anger over the handling of the situation. In a further escalation, two youths were assaulted by angry locals, adding to the unrest.

Giridih Superintendent of Police Bimal Kumar rushed to the sadar hospital to assess the condition of the injured and directed officials to take swift action to control the violence.
