State Congress president Amit Patkar made a shocking revelation on Saturday, asserting that the accused in the Curchorem sex scandal case had victimized more than 100 minor girls. Patkar disclosed these alarming claims while addressing reporters during a protest march organized by the Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee. He emphasized that the victims hailed from various locations including Curchorem, Margao, Vasco, and Ponda, suggesting a widespread impact across the region.
Arrest and Allegations
The case came to light following the arrest of Soham Naik, a resident of Madhegal, Cacora, and son of Curchorem-Cacora councillor Sushant Naik, on March 21. This arrest occurred after a significant public uproar outside the Curchorem police station, highlighting community outrage over the incident.
Patkar alleged that the scandal is far more extensive than what has been reported in the media. He further stated that the accused was allegedly involved in these crimes when he was between 17 and 18 years old, raising questions about the timeline and nature of the offenses.
Criticism of Authorities
The state Congress president strongly criticized the lack of intervention from key governmental bodies. He questioned why the Goa State Women's Commission, the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, and the state education department have not yet taken action in this grave matter.
Patkar stressed the urgent need to identify all victims and provide them with immediate counselling and support. He warned that those under immense pressure from such traumatic experiences could resort to extreme steps, underscoring the critical importance of timely intervention and care.
