Lucknow's Green Corridor Phase 2 to Open by Jan End, Cut Travel Time to 15 Mins
Green Corridor Phase 2 in Lucknow to open by January end

Lucknow is on the brink of a major traffic relief as the second phase of its ambitious Green Corridor project is slated to become operational by the end of January. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is anticipated to inaugurate the crucial stretch, with officials finalising the date for the grand opening.

Project Scope and Expected Impact

This new phase will connect Samtamulak Crossing in Gomtinagar to Daliganj, passing through the busy Nishatganj area. Once open, it is projected to significantly decongest the heart of the city, benefiting a staggering more than 1 lakh commuters every day. The travel time for residents moving between key areas is set to see a dramatic reduction.

The journey from Gomtinagar to the city centre and onward to Daliganj is expected to shrink to just 10 to 15 minutes, a development that promises to seamlessly link important residential and commercial hubs, boosting connectivity and productivity.

Current Status and Pending Work

According to A K Sengar, the project manager for the Green Corridor, construction on the segment from Samtamulak Crossing to Nishatganj is essentially complete. Only some finishing touches at the Nishatganj intersection remain. Furthermore, the road widening work from Birbal Sahni Marg to Hanuman Setu has been finished, though asphalt laying on this part is still pending.

Sengar indicated that the remaining tasks should be wrapped up within the next two weeks, provided weather conditions are favourable. Low temperatures can adversely affect the quality of asphalt laying, which is a factor in the timeline. The flyover that links the corridor to Hanuman Setu is already ready for use.

Focus on Final Stretches and Future Plans

Work is being accelerated on the section from Jhulelal Vatika to Daliganj, with completion targeted in the coming weeks. However, the construction of the railway overbridge (ROB) and the flyover extending from Daliganj to Pakka Pul will continue. This part of the project is likely to be finished by the end of March.

An interesting point noted by an official is that the entire Green Corridor, encompassing both Phase I and Phase II, might be inaugurated together in a single ceremony. This decision hinges on the schedule of the Chief Minister. The first phase, running from IIM to Pakka Pul, was completed approximately a year ago and is already handling traffic smoothly, though it awaits a formal inauguration.

The impending launch of Phase II marks a critical step in Lucknow's infrastructure development, aiming to transform daily commutes and reduce the chronic traffic bottlenecks that have long plagued the city's central zones.
