Maoist Commander's Final Journey Home
The mother of top Maoist commander Madvi Hidma, who recently made an emotional public appeal for her son to surrender, is now preparing to bring his body home after he was killed in an encounter with security forces. Madvi Pojje, Hidma's elderly mother in her 70s, had previously dined with Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma and made a desperate call for her son to choose rehabilitation.
A Mother's Heartbreaking Plea
In her earlier statement, the frail and shivering Pojje had asked: "Where have you gone son, abandoning all your responsibilities back home? I would have searched for you if you were around, but where do I look for you? Come home son." Her wait has now ended with the news of her son's death in an encounter conducted by Andhra Pradesh forces.
The family has been officially informed about Hidma's death, and they are now preparing to travel to Rampasodavaram hospital's mortuary in Alluri Sitarama Raju district of Andhra Pradesh to claim the body. The remains will be brought back to Puvarti, Hidma's native village in Sukma district of Bastar region.
Government Support and Police Statement
Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma has assured that the state government will assist the family in transporting the body. Bastar range inspector general of police Sundarraj Pattlingam told TOI that as per standard protocols, families of Maoist commanders can always claim possession of the body for cremation according to rituals after completing all legal formalities.
Sundarraj emphasized that Hidma had no other option than to surrender. He stated: "He remained elusive and went from one place to another because he probably intended to continue with the path of violence, that's why he was on the mission to save his own life instead of choosing the mainstream life."
Meanwhile, in Sukma, residents celebrated the news of Hidma's death by bursting firecrackers. Police authorities are likely to beef up security when Hidma's body is brought to Puvarti for the final rites.
