Himachal CM Launches 18 Modern Police Vehicles in Shimla

In a significant push to modernize the state police force, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday launched a fleet of 18 advanced police vehicles from the state secretariat in Shimla. The new fleet is specifically designed to strengthen the fight against narcotics and human trafficking while enhancing emergency response capabilities.

Tech-Enabled Fleet to Target Drug Menace and Crime

The newly flagged-off vehicles include 12 anti-chitta (drug) vehicles, four anti-human trafficking vehicles, and two rescue ambulances. Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized that equipping the police with cutting-edge technology is critical for effectively combating drug trafficking networks. These vehicles are fitted with state-of-the-art surveillance and communication systems, which are expected to significantly improve patrolling, real-time monitoring, and rapid response to incidents across the state.

Government's Focus on a Modern and Accountable Police Force

Highlighting his administration's commitment, CM Sukhu stated that the government is focused on building a modern, accountable, and citizen-friendly police force. He outlined that phased efforts are continuously underway to upgrade police infrastructure, provide specialized training, and expand resources. Protecting the youth from drug abuse and ensuring overall public safety remain the top priorities of the state government, he affirmed.

The Chief Minister also detailed the police's recent successes, claiming that major drug networks have been busted, illegal properties worth crores of rupees have been seized, and numerous traffickers have been sent to jail. He credited strict enforcement of laws like the NDPS Act and PIT-NDPS for enabling strong, direct, and decisive action against the entire drug mafia operating in the region.

Boosting Morale Through Career Growth

In a parallel move to boost the morale of the police personnel, the state government has also paid special attention to their career progression. Sukhu revealed that over the past year, a substantial number of promotions were granted across various ranks. This includes 274 constables, 98 inspectors, 225 sub-inspectors, and 225 assistant sub-inspectors. Additionally, 95 personnel from other cadres and 31 from the driver cadre were also promoted, marking a significant step in recognizing and rewarding service.

The introduction of this advanced fleet marks a concrete step in Himachal Pradesh's strategy to leverage technology for law enforcement, aiming to create a safer environment for its citizens.
