Hyderabad Girl Dies After Chinese Manja Slits Throat During Bike Ride
A tragic incident in Hyderabad has claimed the life of a four-and-a-half-year-old girl after her throat was slit by Chinese manja, a banned and dangerous kite string, while she was travelling with her parents on a two-wheeler. The heartbreaking event occurred on Monday evening in the Kukatpally area, sending shockwaves through the community and highlighting the persistent dangers associated with this illegal material.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The victim, P Nishvikaditya, a kindergarten student residing in KPHB colony, was seated in front of her father on the motorcycle when the family was returning home. Her father, P Ramsagar, an employee at a private firm and a native of Ambajipeta in Andhra Pradesh, was driving the bike from Kazipally near IDA Bollaram to their residence in Kukatpally. His wife was riding pillion, with their young daughter positioned between them.
Around 4:45 PM, as they approached Vivekananda Nagar, the girl suddenly screamed in pain. Ramsagar immediately stopped the vehicle and discovered his daughter bleeding profusely from her neck. Upon closer inspection, the horrified parents found a strand of Chinese manja tightly entangled around her throat. They quickly removed the thread and rushed her to a private hospital in Kukatpally for emergency treatment.
Despite their efforts, the child succumbed to her severe injuries shortly after admission. Balanagar ACP P Naresh Reddy confirmed the devastating outcome, stating that the girl could not be saved despite immediate medical intervention.
Police Investigation and Suspected Cause
The Kukatpally police have launched an investigation into the incident and suspect that the deadly manja may have originated from a nearby location where kite flying was taking place. Alternatively, it is possible that the thread was dangling from a passing heavy vehicle and accidentally wrapped around the child's neck as the motorcycle moved through the area.
In response to the tragedy, authorities have registered a case under section 106 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to causing death due to negligence. The young victim's body has been transferred to Gandhi Hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather further evidence.
Second Fatal Incident in Telangana This Year
This heartbreaking event marks the second death linked to Chinese manja in Telangana within this year alone. Earlier, on January 14, a 38-year-old migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh, Avadesh Kumar, lost his life under similar circumstances. Kumar was riding a motorcycle in Sangareddy district when his throat was reportedly slit by the same hazardous kite string, underscoring the widespread threat it poses.
Officials have revealed that more than a dozen individuals across the state have suffered injuries due to the banned thread in 2024, raising renewed concerns about its continued use. Despite repeated warnings, public awareness campaigns, and enforcement drives by authorities, the illicit material remains in circulation, endangering lives.
