Indore Municipal Council Mandates Vande Mataram at All Events Amid Controversy
Indore Mandates Vande Mataram at Events After Dispute

Indore Municipal Council Enforces Vande Mataram at All Official Events

In a decisive move, the Mayor-in-Council (MIC) of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has officially mandated that all municipal events must now begin with the national song, Vande Mataram, and conclude with the national anthem, Jana Gana Mana. This resolution, passed unanimously on Monday, comes amid ongoing controversy over alleged disrespect toward Vande Mataram during a recent Budget meeting.

Response to Political Friction and Unanimous Approval

The proposal was introduced by Nandkishore Pahadiya, the general administration in-charge, during a meeting held at the city bus office. The council's decision is widely viewed as a direct response to recent political friction, where opposition members faced accusations of insulting the national song. By enforcing this protocol, the MIC aims to reinforce respect for national symbols and address the contentious issue head-on.

Support for Women's Reservation Bill and Infrastructure Projects

In addition to the national song mandate, the MIC passed a vote of thanks in support of the Women's Reservation Bill (Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam). Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav praised the legislation as a landmark step toward women-led empowerment, highlighting its significance for gender equality in governance.

The council also approved several key infrastructure initiatives, including:

  • A new link road from Tigariya Badshah main road through Kushwah Nagar to Ujjain Naka, Banganga, with an estimated cost of Rs 20 crore.
  • Construction of 25 smart toilets at a cost exceeding Rs 98 lakh, which includes a 15-year operation and maintenance contract.
  • Expansion of operation and maintenance work for the 245 MLD sewerage treatment plant and 100 MLD pumping station at Kabit Khedi.

Financial Incentives and Naming of Garden

To encourage timely payments, the council approved a 6.25% discount for citizens who deposit their advance property tax by June 30, 2026. This incentive is designed to boost municipal revenue and promote fiscal responsibility among residents.

Furthermore, the garden located in Luv Kush Vihar will be officially named Jasuben Goswami Udyan, honoring a local figure and adding a cultural touch to the city's public spaces.

These measures collectively reflect the MIC's efforts to address political sensitivities, support legislative advancements, and enhance urban infrastructure in Indore.
