Kanpur: A parcel from England brought an unexpected moment of joy for both District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh and a Class VIII girl from Narwal, whose exceptional handwriting skills earned her a gift from an Indian-origin man based in England.
Parcel from England
On Tuesday, DM Jitendra Pratap Singh received a parcel from England containing calligraphy books, special pens, and a letter asking him to deliver the contents to a young girl, Shivani, from Shahpur Umari village in Narwal. The sender, Dr. Ashutosh Sharma, a resident of Northampton in England, wrote that he was inspired by the girl's calligraphy skills and wanted to give these as a mark of appreciation.
The DM said he was surprised on receiving the parcel as he had not ordered anything. He immediately contacted Dr. Sharma in Northampton, who confirmed sending it and requested him to deliver it personally to Shivani.
Shivani's Talent Discovered
Shivani came into the limelight a few months ago during the DM's Janta Darbar, where her exceptionally neat handwriting impressed everyone. Her story spread on social media and eventually reached Dr. Sharma, who was awestruck by her talent.
Singh called the girl to his office on Wednesday and handed over the parcel. Apart from the calligraphy books and pens sent from England, the DM also gifted her a piggy bank (gullak) and encouraged her to develop the habit of saving.
Shivani expressed gratitude to Dr. Sharma for the gift and thanked the DM for his encouragement. She also promised to continue improving her handwriting skills through dedicated practice.
