Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Likely to Resign on Thursday

New Delhi: Congress MLA Ashok K Pattan on Wednesday claimed that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will resign from his post on Thursday after 3 PM. While addressing reporters, Pattan stated that both leaders will obey the Congress high command and suggested that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is likely to succeed Siddaramaiah.

Details of the Claim

"We went to the CM's house. I think the CM may give his resignation tomorrow after 3 PM. He has already taken an appointment with the Governor. Regarding the next CM, the high command will decide," Pattan said.

"Surjewala ji is here already. Most probably, DK Shivakumar will be the CM. Whatever the high command tells, they will obey. I am ready to take a ministry post, but they should give it to me first. That is a problem. I think I may get that. I am also keeping hope that I may get included in the new cabinet," he added.

Supporters Celebrate

The reaction came as Shivakumar's supporters broke into celebration in many parts of Karnataka on Wednesday amid intense speculation over a possible change of guard in the state. Firecrackers were burst and sweets distributed outside Shivakumar's residence in Sadashivanagar, Bengaluru, as well as in Ramanagara, the district headquarters of Bengaluru South.

Speaking to reporters, a Shivakumar supporter described him as a strong and decisive leader, citing his performance in the 2023 assembly elections. "In 2023, he challenged the BJP and RSS and delivered a strong performance. When he said he would win 130 seats, he delivered. He has worked very hard for the last three years," the supporter said.

Background

The political developments come amid ongoing speculation about a leadership change in Karnataka. The Congress high command is expected to make a final decision on the next chief minister. Siddaramaiah's potential resignation would pave the way for Shivakumar to take over the reins of the state government.
