KDA Chief Urges Karnataka CM, Union Minister to Save Kannada Schools in Goa

KDA Chief Appeals to Top Leaders to Prevent Closure of Kannada Schools in Goa

Karnataka Development Authority (KDA) chief Bilimale has written separate letters to Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, urging them to intervene and stop the Goa government from shutting down Kannada-medium schools that have been operating for decades. The letters were sent on 29 June 2026, expressing deep concern over reports of the proposed closure.

Decades-Old Institutions at Risk

According to Bilimale, these schools have served the Kannada-speaking community in Goa for many years, providing education in their mother tongue. The potential closure threatens the linguistic and cultural rights of Kannada speakers in the state. Bilimale highlighted that the schools are not just educational institutions but also symbols of Karnataka's cultural heritage in Goa.

Call for Immediate Action

In his letter to Chief Minister Shivakumar, Bilimale requested the Karnataka government to take up the matter with the Goa administration at the highest level. He also urged Union Minister Pradhan to use his influence to ensure that the schools continue to function, emphasizing the importance of preserving linguistic diversity in India. The KDA chief stressed that shutting down these schools would be a setback for the Kannada community and urged both leaders to act promptly.
