Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday dared the Congress government to fulfill its election promise of constructing 20 lakh Indiramma houses before seeking votes from the people. He demanded that the government release a white paper detailing the number of houses constructed in Greater Hyderabad over the last two-and-a-half years, as well as the number of houses demolished during the same period.
KTR questions minister's commitment
Recalling revenue and housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s earlier statement that the Congress would seek votes only after providing 20 lakh Indiramma houses, KTR questioned whether the minister has the courage and commitment to stand by his own words. He asserted that mere promises and dramatic declarations are not enough, and demanded that the Congress government prove its sincerity through action.
Challenge to ruling party
KTR challenged the ruling party to publicly pledge that it would implement every single promise made in its election manifesto if it truly possesses commitment and credibility. He emphasized that the BRS had constructed nearly one lakh double-bedroom houses in Hyderabad alone during its tenure.
Comparison of housing schemes
According to KTR, each house built by the previous BRS government was equivalent in quality and scale to seven so-called Indiramma houses proposed by the Congress. He stated, “Our party built houses of dignity and pride. We did not construct ‘matchbox houses’ with poor standards. We built spacious and respectable homes for the poor and created a model admired across the country.”
Open challenge to Congress
Throwing an open challenge to the Congress government, KTR said if the government truly has sincerity and administrative capability, it should build even better double-bedroom housing projects in Hyderabad instead of merely making allegations against the previous government.
