In a significant move to support farmers, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced a major loan waiver for those whose lands are being pooled for the development of the state capital, Amaravati. The decision was given the green signal by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Loan Waiver Details and Official Announcement
The announcement was made by Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana during a media briefing in Vijayawada on Wednesday. The minister revealed that the proposal for the waiver was initially requested by Tadikonda MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar. Loans taken by eligible farmers up to January 6, 2026, will be waived, with the benefit capped at ₹1.50 lakh per farmer. Minister Narayana stated that after discussing the matter with the Chief Minister, he received immediate approval.
Alongside the loan relief, the Chief Minister has also given preliminary approval to a set of measures specifically aimed at boosting farmers' income in the region. The minister assured that the development of the pooled land would now proceed at a rapid pace, with clear directives from the top.
Second Phase of Land Pooling Launched
The announcement coincided with the launch of the second phase of the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS-II) in Vaddamanu village of Thulluru mandal. The event was marked by enthusiasm from local farmers. This rollout came a day after the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) stamped its formal nod for the process.
The competent authorities have issued separate notifications for land pooling in two key villages:
- Vaddamanu village (Thulluru mandal): 1,937 acres
- Endrayi village (Amaravati mandal): 2,166 acres
Overall, the government has permitted land pooling across a total extent of 16,666.57 acres spanning seven revenue villages in the capital region.
Political Reactions and Development Timeline
During a village meeting (gram sabha) in Vaddamanu, Tadikonda MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar took a political stance, stating that the public had taught a lesson to the former Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, for obstructing the construction of Amaravati. He referenced farmer protests against perceived injustices during the previous administration.
The MLA praised Chief Minister Naidu for his efforts in convincing the central government on financial matters and securing necessary funds for the state's development. He urged the now-opposition YSRCP to stop spreading what he called false propaganda.
On the infrastructure front, Minister Narayana highlighted the Chief Minister's ambitious directives. Naidu has ordered the completion of an international airport and a sports complex within a strict three-year timeline, signaling a renewed push to realize the Amaravati capital project.
