Polling will commence at 7:30 am sharp and continue until 5:30 pm. Voters will decide the fate of candidates contesting for 2,869 seats spread across 893 wards. The counting of votes is firmly scheduled for the following day, January 16.

The public holiday applies specifically to areas within the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) limits. It covers a wide range of institutions. Government offices, semi-government bodies, corporations, boards, and public sector undertakings will all remain closed. Banks and central government offices located in these zones will also observe the holiday.
This decision followed thorough review meetings on January 6 and 7. Senior election officials, police officers, and civic authorities attended these sessions to finalize election preparedness.
Impact on Schools, Colleges, and Offices
Schools and Colleges: Most government-run and civic-run schools and colleges in Mumbai are expected to remain closed due to the holiday. Many private educational institutions may also suspend classes. This is especially likely if their buildings are being used as designated polling stations.
Offices and Workplaces: Government and semi-government offices within BMC limits will shut down for the day. Banks and public sector offices will follow suit. Private companies will make their own decisions based on internal policies, though a large number are anticipated to grant a holiday.

Emergency Services: All essential and emergency services will function normally. Hospitals, ambulance networks, fire services, and police departments will maintain full operational capacity throughout the day.
