Election Context and Turnout

The BMC elections concluded on Thursday with a voter turnout of 52.94 percent. State Election Commissioner data confirms this participation rate for India's richest municipal corporation.

These elections marked Mumbai's first significant civic exercise in eight years. The previous BMC elections occurred in 2017. The term of the last elected mayor, Kishori Pednekar, ended in March 2022.

With polling completed, Mumbai prepares to welcome a new mayor after nearly four years. The elections faced allegations from the Shiv Sena (UBT)-MNS alliance, which the State Election Commission subsequently refuted.
