In a significant administrative overhaul, the Punjab government has ordered a wide-ranging reshuffle of senior police officers, involving key postings and promotions across the state. The move, which comes into immediate effect, sees the appointment of Maninder Singh as the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Ropar district. Simultaneously, the services of reinstated IPS officer Ravjot Grewal have been placed at the disposal of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.
Key Appointments and Controversial Pasts
The posting of Maninder Singh marks a notable development. Singh, who had previously served as the SSP for Amritsar Rural, was placed under suspension in November last year following allegations related to administrative lapses and conduct. His suspension was later revoked, paving the way for his new assignment in Ropar.
Similarly, the case of 2015-batch IPS officer Ravjot Grewal has drawn attention. Grewal was serving as the SSP of Tarn Taran when she was suspended in November 2025 for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct during the Tarn Taran Assembly by-election. The Election Commission later revoked her suspension. After being made available for a posting, her services have now been allocated to the state's Vigilance Bureau.
A Wave of Promotions and Strategic Transfers
The reshuffle extends far beyond these two officers, encompassing a series of strategic promotions and transfers aimed at filling crucial positions. Jyoti Yadav has been moved from her role as SSP, Khanna, to take charge as the SSP of Bathinda. Replacing her in Bathinda was Amneet Kondal, who has now been promoted and posted as the DIG, Personnel, Punjab. Kondal will also hold the additional charge of DIG, Social Media, for Punjab and Chandigarh.
The order also involved several senior-level promotions to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and above:
- Naresh Kumar transferred from Special DGP, Human Rights, Punjab to Special DGP, PSHRC, Chandigarh.
- Amardeep Rai posted as Special DGP, Traffic and Road Safety, Punjab, with additional charge of Special DGP, Public Grievances Division.
- Kaustubh Sharma promoted to ADGP, Human Rights, Punjab, from IGP, ANTF.
- Rajpal Singh promoted to IGP, Crime, Punjab, with additional charge of IGP, PAP-II, Chandigarh.
- Snehdeep Sharma promoted and posted as DIG, AGTF, Ludhiana, with additional charge of DIG, Ferozepur Range.
- Gulneet Singh Khurana, former SSP Rupnagar, promoted to DIG, ANTF, Punjab.
- Harpreet Singh Jaggi promoted from AIG, Vigilance Bureau, to DIG, EOW, Vigilance Bureau, Punjab.
Other Notable Postings
The reshuffle filled several other important vacancies. Darpan Ahluwalia has been posted as the new SSP of Khanna, moving from the position of Staff Officer to the DGP, Punjab. Rishabh Bhola, upon his promotion to the rank of SP, has been appointed as the new Staff Officer to the DGP. Furthermore, Rupinder Singh was promoted from DCP, City, Ludhiana, to Additional Commissioner of Police for Ludhiana.
The Punjab government's order mandates that all these transfers and postings take effect immediately, signaling a swift implementation of the new police administration structure across the state.
