Manipur's New Government Launches Dual Initiatives for Peace and Economic Growth
In a significant move to stabilize the state, the recently reinstated Manipur government, led by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand, has embarked on a comprehensive peace mission while simultaneously focusing on economic revival. Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho took a pivotal step by engaging with the residents of Motbung in Kangpokpi district on Saturday, marking one of the first outreach efforts since the new administration assumed office.

Attending the 17th Motbung Veng Tournament 2026, Deputy CM Dikho delivered a powerful message, declaring that peace is the only viable solution to drive progress and development in Manipur. He framed his visit as the inaugural step under the government's peace mission, urging the community to prevent personal disagreements from escalating into broader communal conflicts. Dikho also conveyed assurances from Chief Minister Khemchand, who has pledged to initiate programs and policies for internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the earliest opportunity.
Reflecting on historical tensions, such as the Kuki-Naga conflict, Dikho praised the people of Motbung for their longstanding commitment to peace. He emphasized that with the restoration of a popular government, it is crucial to connect with communities and share initiatives aimed at fostering peace and normalcy. Additionally, Dikho highlighted that under the guidance of central leaders, the new government has been entrusted with the responsibility of working diligently to restore peace across the state.
CM Khemchand's Focus on Economic Revival Through Agriculture
Simultaneously, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand chaired a review meeting on Saturday to discuss Manipur's economic revival, with a particular emphasis on promoting integrated farming systems (IFS). The meeting, held at the cabinet hall of the chief minister's secretariat, centered on strategies to boost the state's agricultural sector and enhance its export potential.
During the discussions, CM Khemchand instructed officials to actively promote alternative crop cultivation alongside allied activities, especially in the hill districts. The meeting also explored Manipur's capacity for exporting agricultural and horticultural products, aiming to tap into new markets and stimulate economic growth. Key attendees included Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Additional Chief Secretary Vivek Kumar Dewangan, and other senior officials, underscoring the importance of this initiative.
