Mayawati Urges Vigilance Against Post-Poll Violence in Bengal

Lucknow: BSP national president Mayawati on Monday urged the central and state governments to remain vigilant against post-poll violence in West Bengal. She emphasized that authorities should follow high court directives and act strictly against anarchy to avoid accusations of narrow-minded politics, religious discrimination, caste-based hatred, and partisanship.

Call for Strict Action

Mayawati stated that post-poll violence should be a matter of great concern for the governments. She stressed that the dignity of laws and the Constitution must be upheld and enforced without malice or bias based on caste and religion. "If our country stands out globally for its humanitarian identity, it is because of the Constitution drafted by Babasaheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, which is entirely based on the principle of secularism, ensuring equal respect to people of all religions and faiths," she said.

Constitutional Safeguards

The BSP chief added that the Constitution serves as a "security shield" enabling India to counter anti-national propaganda abroad. It is the responsibility of both central and state governments to ensure that no unpleasant questions are raised against the country on this count. She urged authorities to focus on issues that matter, especially when the nation's social, economic, and political conditions have become difficult and glaring problems have become painful for citizens.

Warning Against Diversion Tactics

Mayawati cautioned that governments should not try to divert public attention from critical issues, as doing so would not solve problems but rather worsen the crisis. Such actions, she warned, would not be in the interest of the country. She reiterated the importance of upholding high human values and ensuring freedom and security for the lives, property, and religion of all faith followers.
