Meghalaya CM Announces 3000+ Police Recruitment, New Jengjal Station
Meghalaya's Massive Police Recruitment Drive Final Stage

In a significant development for Meghalaya's law enforcement capabilities, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced on Monday that the recruitment process for over 3,000 vacancies in the state police department has reached its final stages, marking what he described as potentially the largest recruitment drive in the state's history.

Massive Police Recruitment Drive Underway

The Chief Minister revealed that the extensive recruitment process is currently in the last phase, which involves conducting personal interviews with candidates. This recruitment of more than 3,000 personnel represents a monumental step toward resolving the long-standing issue of manpower shortage within the Meghalaya Police Department.

"This is perhaps one of the largest recruitments in the history of the state," CM Sangma stated emphatically during his address. He emphasized that once completed, this massive hiring initiative would effectively address the critical shortage of personnel that has hampered police operations across the state.

New Jengjal Police Station Inaugurated

The announcements came during the inauguration ceremony of a new police station building in Jengjal, located in West Garo Hills. The newly constructed facility has been built in strict conformity with the norms established by the Government of India, featuring modern amenities and strategic design elements.

Chief Minister Sangma highlighted the strategic importance of the new police station, noting that its model design will be replicated in other locations throughout Meghalaya to enhance policing infrastructure statewide.

"Strategically located and built to meet all mandated policing norms, this police station will play a crucial role in strengthening law and order, improving response times, and ensuring the safety and security of residents," the Chief Minister affirmed.

Modern Facilities for Enhanced Policing

Director General of Police Idashisha Nongrang provided details about the new facility, describing it as representing a major step forward for the police department. The building incorporates all required facilities including:

  • General room for public interaction
  • Modern lock-up facilities
  • Child-friendly spaces designed specifically for younger citizens
  • Dedicated help desk for women to ensure their safety and comfort

These features represent the state government's commitment to creating a more accessible and responsive police force that caters to the needs of all community members.

Jengjal Airport Development Announced

In another significant announcement, Chief Minister Sangma revealed that within this year, the state government would sanction Rs 50 crore to the Airports Authority of India to initiate work on the Jengjal airport project.

Upon completion of the airport, 19-seater planes operated by Air Alliance will begin operations, with the first priority being given to establishing Shillong-Tura flights. This development is expected to significantly improve connectivity within the state and boost economic activities in the region.

The simultaneous progress in police recruitment, infrastructure development, and transportation connectivity demonstrates the Meghalaya government's comprehensive approach to enhancing public safety and regional development.
