Tamil Nadu's Minister for Housing, Prohibition and Excise, S Muthusamy, has issued a strong rebuttal to allegations made by the opposition AIADMK. The minister, speaking in Erode on Thursday, categorically denied claims by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) that the state government is embroiled in a massive Rs 40,000-crore scam related to the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac).
Baseless Allegations, Says Minister
Muthusamy dismissed the complaint that EPS had submitted to Governor R N Ravi, asserting that the charges hold no water. He stated that the allegation of a Tasmac scam has already been looked into and was dismissed for lacking substance. The minister challenged the opposition, declaring that the government is prepared to respond appropriately if any wrongdoing is concretely proven. "No specific wrongdoing has been alleged. Therefore, I completely deny it," Muthusamy emphasized, brushing aside the political attack.
Pongal Hamper Distribution Inaugurated
The minister's comments came during a public engagement earlier in the day. S Muthusamy inaugurated the distribution of Pongal hampers at a ration shop located in Manikampalayam, Erode. This initiative is part of the state government's festive welfare measures for the people of Tamil Nadu.
Progress on Tasmac Outlet Closures
In his address, Minister Muthusamy also provided an update on the government's policy regarding liquor outlets. He highlighted that the administration has already taken significant steps by closing 500 Tasmac shops. Furthermore, he confirmed that the process is ongoing, with work being carried out to shut down additional outlets across the state. This move aligns with the government's stated objectives on prohibition and social welfare.
The minister's statements set the record straight on a major political accusation while showcasing the government's ongoing welfare and policy implementation efforts as Pongal festivities approach.
