Congress MLA's Son Accused of Staging Assault for Sympathy in Rudrapur
In a shocking development from Rudrapur, police have uncovered what they describe as a meticulously planned conspiracy where a Congress MLA's son allegedly staged his own assault to generate public sympathy and settle personal disputes. The incident, which initially appeared as a violent attack, has taken a dramatic turn with police revealing evidence pointing to fabrication.
Police Investigation Reveals Inconsistencies
Four days after Saurabh Raj Behar (35), a councillor from ward 39 and son of Kichha MLA Tilak Raj Behar, claimed he was attacked by three masked men on a motorcycle, police officials announced their investigation has revealed the assault was staged. According to authorities, multiple police teams and special operations groups analyzed CCTV footage, surveillance inputs, and movement patterns from the scene and adjoining routes, leading to the discovery of several inconsistencies.
On January 18, Saurabh had left home stating he was attending a panchayat meeting, after which he reported being attacked by three masked individuals armed with sticks and rods. He was subsequently admitted to hospital with claimed injuries to his hands, spine, and legs. However, the police probe suggests this narrative was carefully constructed.
Conspiracy Unraveled: Friend and Students Involved
Police stated that Saurabh planned the incident with the help of his friend Inder Narang. According to their findings, Narang recruited three students and instructed them to cover their faces and remove the motorcycle's number plate. To avoid attracting public attention, the location of the supposed assault was shifted to near the Shiv Shakti PG gate.
"Narang allegedly followed the assailants in his car and later helped them escape," explained SSP Manikant Mishra. "Narang and two others were subsequently arrested, and two country-made pistols and a knife were recovered from them. During questioning, Narang admitted that Saurabh wanted to be assaulted to generate sympathy as he was facing strained relations with his wife."
MLA Distances Himself, Seeks Public Forgiveness
As the police findings emerged, MLA Tilak Raj Behar publicly distanced himself from his son. Addressing a press conference at his residence on Thursday, the 68-year-old legislator made a strong statement condemning the actions.
"I do not support wrongdoing, even if it is committed by my own son," the MLA declared. "I seek people's forgiveness." He described the episode as a "personal and moral setback" and announced he was severing all ties with his son, vowing not to seek any leniency.
"He must face the law," the MLA added. "What he has done has damaged the dignity of our family and the trust of society." This public disavowal adds another layer to the unfolding scandal that has captured local attention.
Broader Implications and Investigation Status
The case highlights several concerning elements:
- The alleged use of students in staging criminal activities
- The recovery of illegal weapons during the investigation
- The personal motivations behind what police describe as a fabricated crime
- The political implications for the Congress party in the region
Police continue their investigation into the matter, examining all aspects of the alleged conspiracy. The incident has raised questions about the pressures facing political families and the lengths some might go to manipulate public perception for personal gain.
