Chennai: In a statement on Saturday, MNM vice president A G Maurya said there was a “selective approach” to Friday’s live telecast and urged the ruling TVK government to adopt full openness in its legislative sessions.
Selective Broadcast Sparks Criticism
During Friday’s assembly session, certain segments were broadcast live, including the reading of obituary resolutions and the debates surrounding the state government's resolution opposing the construction of the Mekedatu dam. The live feed was, however, cut immediately after, leaving the subsequent discussions and debates on the governor’s address completely off the air for the public.
Long-Standing Demand for Transparency
Maurya reminded the government that the demand for a fully televised assembly session is not new, noting that MNM has been consistently advocating for complete live broadcasts for several years. “Citizens have an absolute right to know and witness every happening inside the legislative assembly,” he said.
Call for Full Openness
The MNM leader's remarks underscore a broader push for transparency in Tamil Nadu's legislative process. The selective telecast has raised questions about the government's commitment to openness, with critics arguing that withholding parts of the session undermines public accountability.
